At the Healthy Hope Foundation, our mission is to empower individuals and families facing the challenges of Type 1 diabetes through comprehensive education and resources. We are dedicated to enriching the lives of children recently diagnosed with diabetes, their families, adults living with the condition, and all those impacted by it.
We strive to provide a diverse array of services, including a specialized day camp for children with diabetes and their siblings, educational programs tailored for all ages, supportive community networks, and advocacy tools designed to foster understanding and resilience.
Through our commitment, we aim to create a supportive environment where everyone affected by diabetes can thrive and lead fulfilling lives.
Hello! My name is Katelynn, and I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) when I was just 5 years old. At the age of 6, I attended my very first diabetes camp, and it was a transformative experience for me. Being the only child with T1D at my school, I had never met anyone else who shared my journey until that moment. Finally, I connected with other kids just like me! I cherished those camp experiences and returned every year through the age of 10.
Once I aged out of the program, I became a Counselor in Training (CIT) and worked my way up through the ranks, eventually taking on the role of camp director. While I adored the camp, I felt a desire to expand its offerings. I envisioned a camp that lasted five full days, included siblings, and welcomed older children as well. In 2010, I made that vision a reality by starting CAMP HEALTHY HOPE! This journey has been nothing short of amazing, allowing me to meet incredible people—both children and adults—and I eagerly anticipate the many experiences yet to come. Even as an adult, when I think of camp, the thing that always comes first to mind is the sense of normalcy I feel. It is the one week of the year, each year, that I feel “normal” because everyone “gets” it!
Outside of camp, I am an elementary teacher, a passionate musician, an active member of my church and its music ministry, and a proud dog mom to a spirited Golden Retriever named Lucky. I also enjoy being a sister, an aunt, a sailor, and a board game/tabletop game enthusiast.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you along your T1D journey, however that may look.
