Yes, we offer refunds for the camper fee of $250.00 for cancellations made at least two weeks before the camp start date. Please note that cancellations made within two weeks of the camp start date are non-refundable, as all supplies will have already been purchased by that time.
Please ensure your child brings a water bottle, lunch, snack, and a change of clothing.
All counselors complete training before the start of camp to ensure they are well-informed about the common symptoms of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. Additionally, they receive training on safety protocols related to playground supervision, weather conditions, and “stranger danger” to foster a safe and supportive environment for all campers. Furthermore, many camp staff members have a personal connection to Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). In addition to those who have T1D themselves, several staff members are parents, siblings, or close friends of individuals living with T1D, bringing valuable insights and empathy to our camp community.
Any child requiring medication during the camp day must bring their medication and check it in each morning at drop-off. Additionally, children who carry an EpiPen should also bring it to check-in.
Campers with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) should bring their blood glucose monitor along with test strips each day. If they are on insulin injections, they must bring their insulin and needles. For those using an insulin pump, please provide two complete pump site changes (including insulin, reservoir, site, etc.). If your child uses a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), a spare should be included in case of failure.
Please note that glucagon and supplies for treating low blood sugar will be provided by the camp.
During camp, we will have your child perform a blood glucose test if their continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is not functioning correctly or if their symptoms do not align with the CGM reading. Additionally, we will conduct a blood check each day at lunchtime.
Since we only have your child for a week, we may not know their individual patterns, behaviors or symptoms as well as you do. Conducting a blood check at lunch helps us ensure that the CGM is accurate and allows us to administer insulin as precisely as possible. This also provides an excellent opportunity for your child to learn how to test independently if they have not yet mastered it.
Please remember, whenever there is doubt or uncertainty regarding a CGM reading, a blood test using the glucometer should be performed as a failsafe measure.
During camp, we are equipped to monitor your child’s glucose levels. Simply send us an invitation at our camp email: camphealthyhope@gmail.com. While we encourage you to reach out with any concerns, please rest assured that we are diligently monitoring the campers’ numbers throughout the day and will treat them as needed.
We understand that it can be challenging to step back, but we kindly ask you to limit calls and texts regarding CGM data during camp hours. This will help us provide prompt treatment and focus on the children in our care more effectively.
You can reach us at 585-733-0234 (Katelynn – Camp Founder) or 585-455-9413 (Kathy – Co-Director) during camp hours for any questions or concerns.
